thoughtful
but unflinching, a caring treatise on Godly marriage
September 17, 2013
`C through Marriage' by Jim Hughes is an inspirational discourse
on the pitfalls surrounding modern day marriages, or - more accurately - a
manual for how best to avoid such pitfalls. The author, with the heart of a
family minister, helps readers to navigate those difficulties while
simultaneously maintaining an air of unflinchingly practicality. Nothing is
held back. `C through Marriage' covers everything from the role that sex plays
in a marriage, to the responsibility of shared finances, to the need for
married Believer's to share a mutual propensity toward `Christlikeness.' Each
issue, or lesson, begins with the letter C (thus the title of the book) and
also with a brief but personal glimpse into the lives of two hypothetical
characters, "Barb and Bill." This method lends `personality' to what
at times might otherwise be uncomfortable subject matter and allows for the
reader to engage more casually. I would highly recommend this book as a guide
to young couples who are about to begin their married lives together but I
could see it working just as well for couples whose marriage may have drifted
over the years. Whatever the length or condition of your marriage, you'll find
`C through Marriage' by Jim Hughes to be flexible enough, and poignant enough,
to be a valuable source for reference and inspiration.
