Review of: O Love How Deep by Diana Maryon

This is a captivating tale of three lives intertwined by mind and soul. We get a glimpse from a scholar, through a diary of letters kept, of the ups and downs of a life that was far from easy. Frustration from being denied a PhD well-earned but not received for twenty-five years, frustration for a forlorn love that would not go away for nearly 40 years of life, frustration from a growing liberal bent in her Anglican Church that she dearly loved, frustration from living across the ocean from her roots and family, and frustration with the choices her adult children made in their lives, all make her life real for those who read it.

Rarely do we get a real-life glimpse of those whose lives are intertwined in the ivory palaces of the academic world. The reader will discover that those whose lives are lived in academe are just like the lives of those whose lives are lived outside their world; it gets messy, even with those who profess the Christian faith.

Even though you will encounter Greek, Latin, French and some German interspersed throughout this book, I did not find it to be too laborious. It will not keep you from staying riveted to the unfolding story of the lives of Diana, Sim and David which begins in Cambridge and travels throughout the world.

I believe there are important life-lessons that will be learned from Diana Maryon’s sharing her story with the world so frankly. For those who persevere in life and faith there is indeed satisfaction, peace and joy.

As a pastor deeply concerned with Christian life and marriage as they are lived, I heartily recommend this book.

Week three of Marilyn Dawson's blog tour.

Welcome to the third stop on Author Marilynn Dawson's virtual book tour for her soon-to-be-released book, “A Year in Prayer With Jesus”. Today we are interviewing Marilynn about her new book.
What difference do you see your writings making in anyone’s life? If a person picks up my writings hoping to learn from another fellow Christian regarding what God has taught them on this journey of faith, then the person will be encouraged to go deeper in their day-to-day faithwalk.
Did you write with a purpose in mind, or did you sit down and randomly write? Each book I've written to date has come about with a purpose in mind. Each book either answers a question, offers a how-to, or shares lessons learned along the journey of faith.
Why do you think your writings are worth buying and reading? We are told that life is easier when we learn from others' mistakes, learn from others' lessons, and humble ourselves to receive instruction, teaching and encouragement from those sharing the road with us. To this end, it is worth buying and reading what God has gifted me to share. Someone else out there is struggling with life after divorce and wondering if they've destroyed their future as a result. A highschooler is graduating and about to leave the comforts of home with caring parents who want one last stab at offering tidbits of advice that will continue to guide their child forward. Someone out there has a book idea but can't afford the big bucks to get it out there. Someone else is puzzled about this concept of the Bride of Christ and wants to learn more. Another person wonders how to put The Lord's Prayer into practical action as a prayer outline. I don't have all the answers, but what God has given me, I am sharing with those who will choose to read about them.
If you could unwind the clock, would you have become an author knowing what you know now? Most definitely! Knowing what I know now, I'd have been in print years ago! My only regret is that I didn't know then what I know now. Hence the creation of the e-book, "Practical Thoughts on Becoming an Author" and it's e-course by the same name for $15.
What gives your writings value for you? They put into concrete form, things that would only be in my head and potentially forgotten. Writing them down means they are there now, not just for me to revisit when the need arises, but for others as well. The value for me is that of imparting what God has given me. I am not blessed to hoard, I am blessed to bless others.
What, if any, Bible verse or passage do you point to that sums up your writings? At the moment, that would be Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say Come. . . and whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely.

Review 2/10/14

Kristina Ludwig Challita
Kristina Ludwig Challita
P.S. Here's the review I posted: "C Through Marriage" is an uplifting, spiritual, and cleverly-written guide to the "C's" of marriage. It takes readers through various aspects of marriage from "cash" to "chivalry." I loved the book, especially since I just got married five months ago!
Author Jim Hughes does a fantastic job of covering all the components of a successful marriage, and each chapter touches on the importance of God and religion in our marriages. I like how each chapter begins with a brief anecdote of fictitious couple Barb and Bill, and ends with reflective questions we can ask ourselves about our own marriages.
I would recommend this book to any married couple, regardless of how long they've been married. This book would be ideal for engaged couples as well!

I was so elated when read through this blue book.. using the C as a tool to capture titles for chapters was an ingenious and creative idea...the tips and examples inside gave my husband cause to think about our marriage and where we want it to go and how we will get there! there are lots of tools we took away from this and will use... saying I do is only the beginning, there is much work to come after those words to remain in a healthy and happy marriage. Thanks for providing a road map!

Jim depicts marriage as the Lord intended it to be. I felt that this book was biblical searched and defined. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it with my husband. It is enlightening and should be read by all married couples or couples who are thinking about getting married. God Bless!
